ARTWORK ORIGINATION

The inspiration for this piece came from a photograph that was shared in a free reference photo group on social media. The photographer had captured the image in the spring when the meadow was lush green and beginning to bloom with flowers.

Hares are often very active in spring as they prepare the breeding season. Males can be seen ‘boxing’ with their rivals to secure a female to breed with. The term ‘Mad March Hare’ describes their erratic behaviour as they prepare for the season and seek out their partners. It was therefore a change to see an image of this individual taking a break and resting within the long grass. As if contemplating its’ next move.
